Abstract

The purpose of this study develops indicators of sustainable entrepreneurial intentions (SEIN) by using a formative approach. A total of 373 business owners or managers in the one region in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY) Province were selected as respondents. Observations and interviews were conducted to obtain on sustainability practices. Convergent validity is generated on six indicators where there are four indicators such as SEIN1, SEIN2, SEIN5, and SEIN6 generate outer weights over than 0.20 while SEIN3 and SEIN4 produce t-statistic above 1.96 so that indicators are declared valid. The reliability testing indicates perfectly reliable. The scores of variance inflation factor are below 5 so that these items meet the criteria in formative measurement modelling. Result indicates each indicator contributes to form the SEIN. The advantages of this approach determine the largest to smallest contribution of each indicator in shaping the intention which relates to four pillars including ethical & cultural, economic, ecological, and social values. This result is a novelty of research, specifically reconstructing indicators at the district level. The next study could consider these items to measure SEIN in the regional entrepreneur community.
