Abstract

This research discusses the role of young women, namely Elsa Novia Sena, in preserving the local culture of Cina Benteng through social media platforms Instagram and TikTok (@elsa.novias). Women have long played a role in traditional culture, but in some cases, their roles are often overlooked, marginalized, or even underestimated. Therefore, this research aims to understand the role of young women in preserving the local culture of Cina Benteng through social media. The research utilizes the Feminist Standpoint Theory, communication and culture, as well as social media. The researcher employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. In gathering data, the researcher conducts in-depth interviews, observations, and documentary studies. The research findings indicate that Elsa Novia Sena’s position as a cultural content creator in the patriarchal community brings a unique perspective to the efforts of preserving Cina Benteng culture and challenging ingrained stereotypes. As a young woman of Cina Benteng descent, Elsa draws upon her personal experiences and familial influences to delve deeper into Cina Benteng culture. Despite the dominance of men, particularly Cina Benteng cultural experts, in the community, Elsa courageously takes on a role in cultural preservation through social media.
