Abstract

This study examines how community-based Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs facilitate the construction of sustainable coastal identities via green communication practices. The inquiry is situated within the context of coastal communities, where livelihoods, culture, and environmental resilience are intricately linked to marine ecosystems. Employing a qualitative practice-based methodology, data were collected through participatory observation, documentation, and immersive engagement in CSR activities to ascertain how communicative artifacts, including messages, symbols, and media representations, shape collective meaning-making and stakeholder engagement. CSR activities, structured around four primary pillars (education, health, environment, and local economy), were disseminated utilizing visual narrative strategies across social media, posters, and video documentation. These media function not merely as informational conduits but as platforms for forging shared narratives of collaboration, environmental ethics, and stewardship. The findings indicate that green communication plays a pivotal role in fostering a ‘Sustainable Coastal Identity’, wherein the community re-frames its identity as ‘coastal guardians’ charged with the protection of marine resources. This symbolic reframing enhances social cohesion, motivates collective environmental action, and augments socio-ecological resilience.
