Abstract

This study aims to describe in depth and analyze the ideal values and practices of the pattern of Bajo childcare in Bontosikuyu, Selayar Regency and changes in the cultural form of the pattern of care. This research is a qualitative descriptive research study with ethnographic methods that emphasize the daily life of Bajo people related to parenting patterns. Data collection uses observation and interview techniques. Data are analyzed through stages, preparing data, reading whole data, coding data, describing topics, form descriptions of the results of the interpretation. The results of the study indicate that childcare in the Bajo tribe is based on the conception of same’ and bagae’. Then the ideal values in parenting are Situla, Sikabbire, Sikarimanang, Kalantasan, Siangga, and Situnggu and children as cultural heirs. Then the style of nurturing the Bajo when they have moved to the land is more open and democratic and does not impose the will of parents. Then the manifestation of cultural change is the orientation of expectations to children, the economic system, marriage, the use of local Bajo language, and the value of children.
