- Abstract
Coastal areas are the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, such as sea level rise, abrasion, and extreme disasters. Social media now plays an important role in raising awareness and encouraging adaptive behavior among coastal communities through digital climate communication. This study aims to systematically review the effectiveness of social media campaigns in the context of public communication and pro-environmental behavior change in coastal areas. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach was used, referring to the PRISMA protocol, covering 35 international articles published between 2020 and 2025. The results of the study show that effective communication strategies emphasize local community involvement, the use of contextual language and narratives, and the integration of digital technology to build awareness and adaptive action. However, challenges remain in the form of media bias, low climate literacy, and the gap between science and public understanding. This study confirms that the effectiveness of coastal climate communication is highly determined by the socio-cultural context, community participation, and cross-sector collaboration. These findings provide a basis for the development of participatory, evidence-based, and sustainable climate communication policies.
