- Abstract
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a progressive respiratory condition characterized by persistent breathing difficulties. Symptoms associated with COPD often lead to reduced quality of life among patients. Self-management, encompassing biopsychosocial and spiritual aspects, is posited to influence quality of life in this population. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between self-management and quality of life in individuals with COPD. A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed at the outpatient pulmonary clinic of Koja Regional General Hospital in Indonesia. Participants included clinically stable COPD patients without sensory perception impairments. Data were collected using validated Indonesian versions of the TASMAN and WHO-QoL instruments and analyzed via Spearman’s rho correlation. Results demonstrated a significant positive association between self-management and quality of life (p < 0.001, r = 0.702). Effective self-management is essential for optimizing quality of life in COPD patients, underscoring the need for research and implementation of targeted nursing interventions.
