- Abstract
This paper applies the theory of Dana’s philosophy of art and systematically examine the evolution of Chinese ancestral hall architecture through the three factors of race, environment, and epoch. Through literature research and data collection, it finds that ancestral hall architecture not only plays the role of maintaining the core of Confucian ritual system, but also develops various styles according to the regional environment, and its function also develops from a single ritual to multi-functional composite space. The study shows that the evolution of ancestral halls is a combined result of cultural traditions, natural conditions and social changes, confirming the validity of Dana’s theory and demonstrating the adaptive wisdom of traditional Chinese architecture. Finally, a new perspective for understanding ancient architectural and innovation of cultural inheritance is provided.
