- Abstract
This study explores the intersection of traditional theater and digital technologies through a dialectical lens. It applies Brechtian estrangement and Baudrillard’s hyperreality to show how virtual production reshapes the theatrical experience while retaining cultural aesthetics. The digital theater production Ji Kang exemplifies new spatial synchronization methods bridging physical and virtual stages. The research highlightshow digital integration enriches dramaturgy and audience engagement beyond time and space. Yet, it also raises challenges regarding liveness and artistic autonomy. The fusion of xiqu traditions with XR technologies fosters experimental innovation, urging a rethinking of theatrical theory. The paper proposes a transmedial framework to understand theater’s evolving nature in the digital era, with implications for heritage and future performance forms.
