Abstract

This paper explores how Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can help libraries in providing learning resources efficiently and expediently. The information explosion has made it difficult for the academic community to keep abreast of the ongoing new changes in the academic world. The solution lies in the systematic use of ICT in libraries, which can filter out relevant information from the internet. Technology has made it possible to win over time and space in terms of accessing information. This has changed the role of libraries from mere disseminators of information to content generators. The communication technology has helped libraries to meet the needs of all categories of users, which includes Users With Special Needs (UWSN). The content creation and personalized access to learning resources are being transformed by the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in digital libraries to provide dynamic support to the needs of the different users. These technological opportunities and advances are in line with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) in India, which aims at ensuring that digital libraries provide all learners with inclusive, accessible and innovative learning opportunities. The paper also explores the possibility of using ICT in bridging the gap between developed countries and developing nations in terms of accessing costly information.
