- Abstract
Traffic safety in Indonesia is still an important issue as the number of accidents is high every year. One of the contributing factors is driver fatigue which affects driving behavior and speed. This study analyzed the effect of physical fatigue and mental fatigue of drivers on speed while driving on the Banda Aceh-Medan cross route with a questionnaire survey of 200 respondents (100 private vehicle drivers and 100 public vehicle drivers). Data were collected through a Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The results showed that the model was valid and reliable with the majority of indicators having a loading factor of > 0.5, CR > 0.7, and AVE > 0.5. In general drivers, mental fatigue had a positive and significant effect on speed, while physical fatigue was insignificant with a simultaneous effect of 71.2% In private drivers, physical and mental fatigue were both positive and significant with a simultaneous effect of 32.6%. This study indicates that public vehicle drivers are more affected by mental fatigue, while private vehicle drivers by a combination of physical and mental fatigue.
