Abstract

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across ASEAN, including the Philippines, face growing pressure to adopt data-driven decision-making, yet empirical evidence on how business analytics is integrated into their core functions remains limited. This study investigates the relationship between business analytics practices—descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive—and key organizational functions among SMEs in the fourth congressional district of Quezon Province. Using a descriptive quantitative design, data were gathered from 257 SME owners, managers, and decision-makers through a validated survey instrument. Statistical analyses included weighted mean, standard deviation, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and correlation analysis. Results indicated that descriptive and predictive analytics are commonly adopted, while prescriptive analytics remains largely untapped. Marketing and finance demonstrated the strongest analytics integration, whereas operations and human resources lagged behind. Significant associations were found between descriptive analytics and marketing, human resources, and finance, and between predictive analytics and marketing, operations, and finance. Prescriptive analytics was primarily relevant to financial functions. This study contributes novel, localized evidence by mapping analytics adoption to specific business functions in a Philippine SME setting—a gap largely unaddressed in ASEAN research, which typically treats SMEs as a homogeneous group. The findings offer sector-focused insights that can guide capacity-building, digital transformation policies, and function-specific analytics strategies. Future research should explore the moderating roles of digital maturity and organizational culture.
