Abstract

Until the last century, wood was one of the most widely used materials in various aspects of socio-cultural life. This article examines the significance of wood carving as a form of art that has flourished due to the rich availability of natural resources. It highlights how this craft enhances the beauty of the environment while remaining environmentally friendly. In our nation, the plentiful presence of trees such as oak, walnut, pistachio, black walnut, mulberry, and pear, along with their remarkable properties, renders them not only practical for everyday use but also essential for artistic embellishment. Decorative applied art embodies the unique ways in which humans perceive nature and express their aesthetic appreciation for the world around them. Artistic interpretations inspired by natural themes have led to the development of various ornaments and symbolic representations. In the realm of architecture, decorative wooden elements, printing forms, and diverse examples of wood carving are influenced by the rich variety of local flora and fauna. These stylized ornamental features are manifested in the wood’s texture through an array of carving techniques and structural designs. Wood carving stands as one of the most ancient and distinctive art forms, skillfully capturing the essence of nature and preserving the artistic interpretation of the environment for future generations.
