- Abstract
This article examines two pieces from the 16th century Tabriz Miniature School, specifically miniatures inspired by Nizami Ganjavi’s poems “Seven Beauties” and “Khosrow and Shirin”, through an Ecofeminist Perspective. The primary objective of this research is to investigate the representation of Women and Nature, as well as to explore the Relationship between these portrayals and the prevailing Patriarchal Ideologies. The miniatures highlight the Symbolic Significance of Female Strength and their Intrinsic ties to the Natural World.
The findings indicate that the 16th century Tabriz Miniature School reflects a clear trend of objectifying both Women and Nature. Nonetheless, certain representations underscore Female Empowerment, a yearning for Autonomy, and a Harmonious Relationship with Nature, which challenge traditional Patriarchal Binaries. Additionally, the article delves into the Aesthetic and symbolic implications of Natural Elements depicted in the miniatures.
The significance of this research is underscored by the ongoing examination of women’s representation in Art and the critique of the Patriarchal Perspectives that shape their societal roles. The Ecofeminist lens provides insight into the Historical Objectification and Exploitation of both Women and Nature in Art. Within this framework, the Visual Analysis reveals how Miniature Art can be interpreted through the Lenses of Patriarchal and Feminist Theories. Consequently, this study introduces fresh viewpoints in the Realms of Art and Ecofeminism, thereby making a noteworthy contribution to Cultural History.
