Abstract

As the global ecological environment deteriorates, carbon neutrality has become a crucial goal for humanity’s pursuit of sustainable development. This paper delves into the close connection between eco-design and carbon neutrality, elucidating the pivotal role of eco-design in achieving carbon neutrality objectives. It first introduces the concepts of carbon neutrality and eco-design, then analyzes the application of circular thinking in eco-design, and proposes requirements for eco-design methodologies based on circular thinking. Furthermore, it explores specific manifestations of eco-design in advancing carbon neutrality, encompassing scientific design approaches, precise manufacturing processes, green product distribution, and sustainable product recycling. Finally, the paper reflects on the challenges and opportunities for eco-design in achieving carbon neutrality, underscores its significance in promoting sustainable human development, and calls upon designers to actively engage in eco-design practices, collectively contributing to a low-carbon future for our planet.
