Proceedings of the International Conference on Communication and New Media Studies (COMNEWS 2025)
Conference: International Conference on Communication and New Media Studies (COMNEWS 2025)
Date: 14–17 October 2025
Location: Malacca, Malaysia (Hybrid)
Website: https://comnews.umn.ac.id/ The rapid transformation of communication in the digital era has reshaped how individuals, communities, and institutions construct meaning, build relationships, and respond to complex global challenges. The emergence of artificial intelligence, platform-based interactions, and data-driven communication systems has expanded the possibilities of communication while redefining the conditions in which it takes place. These developments call for critical reflection, particularly as societies navigate pressing issues such as climate change, social inequality, and sustainable development. The International Conference on Communication and New Media Studies (COMNEWS) 2025 provides a platform for examining these shifts. The discussions in this conference highlight the central role of communication in shaping how societies understand and respond to technological change and sustainability challenges. Communication is not merely a tool, but a constitutive process embedded in everyday life and social structures. This proceeding presents selected papers that reflect the richness of these discussions. The contributions cover a range of topics, including digital media practices, storytelling, participatory communication, environmental communication, and community-based initiatives. Several papers explore the implications of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, while others emphasize the role of communication in fostering social change, strengthening community resilience, and enabling more inclusive engagement. The diversity of perspectives in this volume, including those grounded in the Global South, highlights the importance of situating communication within local contexts while engaging with broader global discourses. Collectively, these works demonstrate how communication shapes social realities and supports collective action in addressing contemporary challenges. It is hoped that this proceeding will contribute to ongoing scholarly conversations and offer insights for scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and educators working in an increasingly mediated world. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to all authors and reviewers for their valuable contributions. Our gratitude also goes to all parties who have supported the realization of International COMNEWS 2025 and this publication. The Organizing Committee
