- Abstract
Empirical evidence on whether digital tools effectively support adolescent music aural training remains scarce. This study employed a 12-week quasi-experimental pre-test/post-test design with 120 adolescents (aged 12–17) randomly assigned to an experimental group trained with adaptive digital software (EarMaster Cloud) or a control group receiving equivalent teacher-led instruction. Performance in pitch, rhythm, interval, and chord perception was measured, and data were analyzed via repeated-measures ANOVA, MANOVA, and hierarchical regression. Results showed that digital-tool training significantly improved overall aural skills, with effects varying across dimensions and moderated by prior musical experience and engagement. Findings support digital tools as complementary—rather than substitutive—resources, most effective for pitch and interval perception while teacher-led training remains essential for harmonic skills.
