Abstract

Our work presents the results of a qualitative study exploring the perceptions of learners and teachers towards online learning. 193 learners and 70 teachers from various institutions responded to open-ended questionnaires regarding their expectations, experiences, and viewpoints on online learning. Thematic analysis of the responses revealed several trends. On the learners’ side, there is a need for diverse formats, a desire to improve the quality of online courses, and an increased demand for flexibility and support—however, some learners express satisfaction with their current training. Teachers find video conferencing tools and Learning Management Systems (LMS) to be effective. They believe that learner motivation depends on factors such as clear objectives, relevant content, and interactive activities. They strive to accommodate different learning styles. Their personal experiences with distance teaching remain mixed, with both challenges and opportunities presented by new methods. Overall, this study reveals similar expectations between the groups, highlighting the need for pedagogical innovation to enhance the quality of online education and meet changing needs.
