- Abstract
This paper aims to examine the effect of general strains on workplace bullying. Drawing on the general strain theory, we propose and test the relationship between strain and workplace bullying by exploring the mediating role of negative emotion. Through collecting data via online questionnaires, we received 209 responses. The results show a positive relationship between personal strain and workplace bullying behaviors; that is, stress contributes to workplace bullying. In addition, the relationship is mediated by typical negative emotions—i.e., anxiety and depression.
