- Abstract
Addressing the pressing need to address emotional and behavioral challenges in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), this study proposes an “emotion-regulation-oriented piano improvisation teaching model”. Breaking away from traditional piano instruction that emphasizes technical training, the model redefines the piano as an interactive medium for emotional expression. By leveraging its wide tonal range, rich acoustic properties, and the unstructured advantages of improvisation, the approach employs strategies such as emotional synchronization, musical dialogue, and chord tension modulation to enhance ASD children’s emotional recognition, expression, and regulation. Through 11 weeks of case-based intervention practice, the model demonstrated significant reductions in emotional outbursts, enhanced emotional stability, and heightened social engagement. This establishes a novel, empirically validated pathway for music-based interventions in special education.
