- Abstract
This conceptual paper developed an integrated framework combining Total Quality Management (TQM) principles and ISO 9001:2015 standards to evaluate the quality management practices of DTRT Apparel, a key player in Ghana’s apparel industry. The study employed a theoretical research design, conducting a comprehensive literature review of academic publications, industry reports, and case studies. A deductive thematic analysis approach was used to map TQM principles against ISO 9001:2015 clauses and compare them with DTRT Apparel’s existing operational practices. The analysis revealed that DTRT Apparel demonstrates a strong alignment with core TQM principles and practices that resonate with the ISO 9001:2015 standard, evident in its leadership commitment to sustainable and ethical production, employee well-being, use of technology for process management, and pursuit of continual improvement. However, the firm faces contextual challenges common to the Ghanaian apparel sector, such as infrastructural limitations, resource scarcity, and macro-environmental factors. The study contributes to the understanding of quality management within the apparel industry in developing economies by providing an integrated assessment framework. It offers a methodological approach for apparel firms to enhance their quality management practices and serves as a foundation for future empirical research on the implementation and impact of such frameworks. The findings have practical implications for DTRT Apparel and other Ghanaian apparel firms in assessing and enhancing their quality management practices to improve operational efficiency, product quality, customer satisfaction, and competitiveness in both domestic and international markets. It contributes to sustainable and ethical production, better working conditions, and economic empowerment within the Ghanaian apparel sector.
