Abstract

The primary objective of this research is to analyze and devise strategies to enhance the socio-economic resilience of impoverished households enrolled in the Family Hope Program (PKH) in addressing the challenge of food diversification during times of famine. Specifically, we aim to gather scientific insights on (1) the characteristics of impoverished households facing food diversification challenges during famines, (2) the behavior of impoverished households in building socio-economic resilience to tackle food diversification issues during crises, and (3) developing effective strategies to enhance socio- economic resilience that can be widely disseminated to combat independent food diversification challenges during famines. The research was carried out in rural areas of Banyumas Regency and Banjarnegara Regency, Central Java Province, employing a purposive sampling technique. The research methodology involved a case study combined with qualitative and quantitative approaches. It is acknowledged that the program has brought benefits to program beneficiaries. However, research shows that the program has inadvertently fostered dependence on government assistance and a lack of enthusiasm for essential skills training, indicating incomplete success in promoting self-reliance. Local food resources have not been processed with various food diversifications. As a result, their resilience to internal and external disturbances is vulnerable. Beneficiaries provided suggestions for improving the PKH program, including increasing funding, better targeting of beneficiaries, and increasing support for skills development. Dismissed beneficiaries urged that the social assistance program continue to be improved to ensure equitable and sustainable support for marginalized groups in society.
