Abstract

The primary objective of this systematic review is to synthesise existing research on female labour force participation especially in the developing countries, evaluating the factors that influence the participation, and providing strategic recommendations for promoting female labour force participation in developing countries. This study was guided by the ROSES (Reporting Standards for Systematic Evidence Syntheses) review protocol. Based on the 19 final articles which have been systematically reviewed, female labour force participation (FLFP) in developing countries reveals several critical insights. The factors that influence FLFP in developing countries are education, age, household factors, and sociocultural. However, limited research addresses how these factors interrelate in developing country contexts. Other limitation of this review is the selected studies were only limited to certain continents of the developing countries. These findings emphasise the multidimensional nature of FLP, emphasising the importance of addressing both economic and sociocultural variables. These findings suggest that a comprehensive approach is needed to effectively increase FLFP in developing countries.
