Abstract

In today’s global economy, characterized by technological advances and heightened uncertainty, businesses are increasingly reliant on strategic transformations to stay competitive. Startups, however, face unique challenges due to limited resources and their status as newcomers. This study explores the pivotal role of venture capital in facilitating strategic shifts for startups. Analyzing 110 startups listed on China’s SME Board and GEM between 2012 and 2022, the research underscores the significant impact of venture capital intervention. By offering essential financial support and leveraging extensive social networks, venture capital not only alleviates startups’ financial constraints but also amplifies their strategic initiatives. Unlike previous studies, this research delves deep into how venture capital becomes embedded within startups, enhancing their transformative endeavors. The findings highlight venture capital’s vital contribution, empowering startups to navigate intricate strategic changes successfully. This study sheds light on the indispensable role venture capital plays in propelling startups toward sustainable growth amidst challenging business landscapes. This study also provides actionable recommendations for startups and venture capital firms, emphasizing the importance of leveraging networks, industry expertise, and collaborative governance to drive strategic transformations effectively.
