Abstract

This article focuses on the effects of artificial intelligence on manufacturing enterprises, aiming to explore the influence of AI technology application on the performance of publicly listed manufacturing companies and the underlying mechanisms. The research utilizes data from Chinese A-share listed manufacturing companies from 2017 to 2022, employing text analysis to construct an AI index and using the Tobin’s Q ratio as a performance measurement indicator. Empirical results indicate that the application of AI technology significantly enhances the Tobin’s Q value of enterprises, reflecting their market value and future profitability. Furthermore, the study finds that AI promotes performance growth by accelerating capital turnover. This article further analyzes the heterogeneous effects of AI application on manufacturing enterprises with different financial flexibilities and scales, confirming that AI has a more pronounced positive impact on the performance of high-financial-flexibility and small enterprises. The research provides detailed and reliable factual evidence and action guidelines for decision-makers in manufacturing enterprises.
