Abstract

This paper investigates the varied impact of regional digital transformation on local economic growth, focusing on industry-specific adaptability. The growth of digital technologies and regional disparities in digitalization and industrial structures lead to different economic outcomes. Drawing on theories of industrial structure, regional innovation systems, and spatial economics, the study hypothesizes that high-tech industries benefit more than traditional ones, with regional differences influencing these effects. Using panel data regression and spatial econometrics, the analysis of data from multiple Chinese regions shows that digital transformation significantly benefits high-tech industries, while the impact on traditional industries is smaller. Regional innovation capacity and infrastructure are crucial in moderating these effects, with notable spillovers in neighboring areas. The study provides empirical evidence on the differential impacts of digital transformation and offers policy recommendations for increasing innovation and infrastructure investment, particularly for SMEs and traditional industries. Future research could focus on SME-specific effects and regional disparity analysis.
