Abstract

Religious diversity in Indonesia is both a gift and a challenge that must be cared for properly. This article highlights the importance of religious moderation in this diversity. Even though Indonesia has a variety of religions, the meaning of these religions remains. The aim is to create life (rules) that come from God with teachings of goodness that lead humans back to their human nature [1]. One of the majority religions in Indonesia is Islam. Places of worship for this religion are mosques, one of which is the Tarutung Grand Mosque, namely Masjid Raya Tarutung. This mosque became the object of research by the writing team for friendship between religious communities (Christianity and Islam). The friendship that the writing team carries out is to strengthen brotherhood ties between religious communities [2]. This study aims to examine the practice of religious moderation at the Tarutung Grand Mosque through a qualitative case study approach. The results of the study indicate that religious moderation is practiced through interfaith activities, participation in interfaith organizations, and discussions on religious harmony. This moderation is important to maintain harmony and Indonesia’s identity as a pluralistic and tolerant country.
