Abstract

Indonesia known for many cultures and religions, making religious moderation very important for social peace and stability. Gumeng Village in Karanganyar Regency is a place for tourists with much religious and cultural variety. This study looks into understanding religious moderation in the local area, focusing on how different faiths get along, the role of Cetho Temple in community life, and how Gumeng residents deal with outside cultural influences. The research uses a descriptive qualitative method with case study approach. Data came from focus group discussions (FGDs) with two groups of 12 people each. People had to meet certain criteria: a) born and living in Gumeng Village, b) active in local youth group, c) willing to join FGDs at agreed times. Findings show that harmony among religions in Gumeng Village shows up in everyday social activities and no long-lasting religious conflicts. This is mainly due to values from ancestors, guidance from parents, and teachings from religious leaders. Cetho Temple is also important as it helps people interact in ways that support religious moderation. Even though there are outside cultural influences because it is a tourist site, Gumeng Village has kept its traditional wisdom well.
