Abstract

This research aims to describe the role of the church in changing the culture of using cut flowers on church altars. This research is based on the phenomenon of using cut flowers on church altars every week which has an impact on environmental damage. This research is qualitative research. Initial data was collected by distributing a questionnaire to 36 respondents to see the use of cut flowers in churches and 78% of respondents answered that their church uses cut flowers every week. The research results show that 86% of research respondents think that the use of cut flowers on church altars does not damage the environment. Meanwhile, a literature review shows the fact that cut flower waste is one of the causes of environmental damage. Therefore, the Church must play a role in changing the culture of using cut flowers on church altars by prohibiting the use of cut flowers on church altars. Churches must use environmentally friendly altar decorations, socialize to their congregation that the use of cut flowers on church altars produces waste that is harmful to the environment.
