- Abstract
This paper explores the use of traditional medium and techniques in possible new contemporary ways. The major focus of this research is how present-day artist reimagines or rethink age-old material not only for aesthetic value but also because of their capacity to evoke new thoughts and fresh interpretations supporting ideals like sustainability and cultural significance. The material itself plays a vital role in changing the current art scenario. The growing consciousness about sustainability might be reflected in the choice of materials. By using this perspective, the study emphasizes how the alteration of conventional materials advances a more comprehensive conversation between the past and present and establishes materiality as a key factor in the development of modern artistic expression. Using Art Fair 2025 as a case study, I tried to trace how an artist picked the traditional material and looked at them with artistic eyes making material narrate the stories in an artwork. Material not just plays a passive role in an artwork but it plays an active role and narrates the stories of the life.
