- Abstract
Social interaction is a constant need for human in a day-to-day basis. In this technologically advanced world, MMORPGs or Massively Multiplayer Online Role-playing Game, as an online, real-time, and interaction-dependent game, can be a supporting tool to interact socially. This study aims to investigate how teenagers experience these virtual interactions in MMORPGs to better understand its benefits and implications. This research uses a qualitative phenomenological approach with Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) method to analyze responses. Subjects are five teenagers aged 18–22 years old, and the response was gathered using semi-structured interviews. Results indicate that teenagers interact in a positive note in-game, with strong points being evaluation, critics, regulation, coping, defense mechanisms, and using MMORPGs as a break from the real-world in the form of a ‘second world’.
