- Abstract
The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of intensive training on the development of counselor competencies at Unit Layanan Bimbingan dan Konseling (ULBK) Peduli Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY). Although counselors for the blind have important roles in promoting the mental health of blind students, their effectiveness is greatly hampered by their limited skill sets. The study employs a case study methodology with a qualitative approach. Data is obtained through an in depth interview with a supervisory counselor who has completed an intensive training program. The study’s findings indicate that intensive instruction significantly increases the subject’s capacity in a variety of areas, including theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and professional judgment. It is advised that the intense training program be maintained and expanded in order to raise the quality of peer counseling services in light of these findings. The establishment of peer counselor training programs at other higher education institutions will benefit greatly from this research.
