- Abstract
The Interpersonal Needs Questionnaire (INQ) assesses perceived burdensomeness and thwarted belongingness, key constructs in the Interpersonal Theory of Suicide. Despite its widespread use, its psychometric properties vary across populations and cultural contexts. This systematic review evaluates the INQ’s reliability, validity, and factor structure in various populations and countries. A comprehensive search of databases including PubMed, PsycINFO, and Scopus (2015-2024) identified 10 studies that met the inclusion criteria. The findings indicate significant variability in the INQ’s psychometric properties, with some studies reporting high reliability and validity, while others highlighted challenges in maintaining consistent factor structures. Differences were noted among age groups, clinical vs. non-clinical populations, and cultural settings. This review emphasizes the need for context-specific validation studies and provides insights for researchers and clinicians on the importance of considering cultural and demographic differences in psychometric evaluations. Continuous validation are essential to ensure the INQ’s reliability and validity across diverse populations.
