- Abstract
Objective: To explore the characteristics of cognitive development and training needs regarding intercultural sensitivity among senior undergraduate nursing students, and to provide a reference for cultivating their transcultural nursing competence. Methods: A qualitative study was conducted using semi-structured interviews with 16 senior undergraduate nursing students from a medical university in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. The data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s seven-step method. Results: A disconnect was identified between the participants’ awareness of intercultural sensitivity and their actual competence. While they expressed a strong demand for practical intercultural training, systematic support was found to be insufficient. Conclusion: Senior undergraduate nursing students exhibit a characteristic of “high awareness but low competence:” in intercultural sensitivity.
