Abstract

Objective: To investigate the current status of intercultural sensitivity among junior undergraduate nursing students and analyze its influencing factors, so as to provide a reference for intercultural nursing education. Methods: Using convenience sampling, 134 junior–year nursing students from a medical college in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, were selected. Data were collected through a general information questionnaire and the Intercultural Sensitivity Scale (ISS). Results: The total intercultural sensitivity score of the nursing students was 99.6 ± 16.12, with an average item score of 2.37 ± 0.38, indicating a moderately low level. Among the dimensions, the score for interaction confidence was the highest (2.56 ± 0.43), while that for cultural awareness was the lowest (2.10 ± 0.44). Univariate analysis revealed that factors such as gender, age, ethnicity, and religious belief had no significant impact on intercultural sensitivity (P > 0.05). Conclusion: The overall intercultural sensitivity of junior nursing students is relatively low. The study found no significant association between intercultural sensitivity level and common demographic characteristics such as gender and ethnicity.
