Abstract

Currently, medical laboratory technology serves as a vital component of clinical medicine’s auxiliary departments. Its advancement significantly impacts medical progress, medical education, and the training of medical students. In the future, medical laboratory technology will integrate with advanced technologies like AI to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of biochemical analysis while minimizing human error in manual testing. As a crucial element of the modern medical system, medical laboratory technology provides essential data support for clinical testing. Current research in medical laboratory technology still faces numerous shortcomings. Imbalances in urban-rural development and insufficient multidisciplinary collaboration point to areas requiring focused efforts. Future medical laboratory technology will deeply integrate with AI to meet contemporary demands and healthcare needs. With innovations like POCT, medical laboratory technology will take on a new form, deeply rooted in clinical frontlines to better serve the medical field. This study employs quantitative analysis methods, utilizing CiteSpace 6.4 R1 literature visualization software to conduct a visual analysis of medical laboratory technology literature data from the Web of Science (WOS) between 2016 and 2025. Key findings include: 1) Keyword Clustering Analysis: covid-19pandemic, artificial intelligence, medicalstudents 2) Temporal Trend Analysis: Research on medical laboratory technology from 2016 to 2025 progressed through three distinct phases: - 2016-2020: Collaborative research between AI and medical students - 2021-2022: Multidimensional integration studies and 2023–2025: a return to AI-driven research integrated with medical students and education dimensions. Case studies demonstrate medical students’ critical role in advancing medical laboratory technology. Thus, governments should increase funding to promote cutting-edge R&D and actively align with international standards.
