Abstract

Bali is a top priority destination for development in the tourism sector because it has a variety of tourist destinations and potential attractions for foreign and domestic tourists. The use of digital technology with a virtual reality-based smart tourism concept can be used as a tourism promotion strategy. This research aims to develop a digital museum based on virtual reality for ancient sites and temples as a promotional medium for smart tourism in Indonesia. Research and development of virtual reality-based digital museums is important because it contributes to the restoration and conservation of cultural heritage sites and has great potential in increasing tourist visits. This research uses the Borg & Gall model research and development method using 7 stages according to research needs. The data collection process is through observation, interviews, documentation, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The research data sources come from tourism stakeholders, related tourism parties in Bali, as well as involving the local Balinese community through focused discussions (FGD). The results of the research and development are the virtual reality-based “Ancient of Bali” product in the form of a website application. The “Ancient of Bali” product has features that contain information about ancient sites and temples in Bali in the form of images, locations, building descriptions, history, architecture, 360˚ street views, and videos. This development is expected to help stakeholders in promoting tourist destinations so as to increase the number of tourist visits and make it easier for tourists to access information related to ancient sites and temple destinations in Bali.
