Abstract

This study examines the role of indigenous knowledge in environmental conservational efforts that exist in Selorejo through ecosophy. In this study, we investigate the role that the cultural reproduction of indigenous communities plays in sustainable environmental practices. This research emphasizes how indigenous practices allow them to regulate their environment and maintain a balance between culture and nature. What is significant about this study, in contrast to previous studies, is that most such studies focus on technical solutions to conservation, rather than cultural dimensions. The methodology encompasses ethnographic fieldwork, interviews with community elders, and analysis of local customs and rituals. These findings indicate that for the effective conservation of environment, indigenous knowledge systems, which are firmly entrenched in cultural and spiritual beliefs, are critical. Through biodiversity, food practices maintain cultural identity and intrinsic knowledge defying neo-colonial conservation approaches. The contribution of the study extends to the larger conversation of ecology and conservation through a demonstration of how indigenous knowledge can be incorporated with modern-day conservation efforts. This study will be of use to policymakers, environmentalists, and scholars interested in sustainable development by offering close examinations of how cultural practices can be employed towards the goals of ecological sustainability.
