- Abstract
The Miao people of Qiandongnan in Guizhou Province believe that the “bridge” serves as a medium connecting the realms of the living and the dead. Therefore, after a successful “Bridge-Building for Offspring” ritual and the birth of a child, a “Reqiao” ① (Bridge-Warming) ceremony is held annually on the second day of the second lunar month. This paper documents the “Reqiao Festival” and focuses on the musical elements involved in its preparation and performance. It aims to explore the role of ritual music as a form of cultural narrative, and how music helps preserve and transmit the collective memory and identity of the Miao community, thereby strengthening ethnic identity.
