Abstract

This paper discusses the design and evaluation methods of educational games under the perspective of learning analytics. As a product of the deep integration of education and games, educational games aim to improve learners’ learning efficiency and effectiveness by enhancing the interactivity and fun of learning. This paper first outlines the basic concepts of educational games and learning analytics, and analyzes the application of learning analytics in educational game design, especially the importance of learner profiling, including traditional profiling and unique computer operation ability analysis. Further, this paper discusses the need for “adaptive” learning analytics for educational games in the era of big data, where learning history data are collected and analyzed to tailor the gamified learning environment for each learner. Finally, this paper proposes a method for evaluating the effectiveness of educational games based on learning analytics, including detailed analysis of student accounts, game duration, game phases, and interaction traces, aiming to provide empirical support for the design and optimization of educational games.
