- Abstract
In 2013, President Xi Jinping proposed the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which has garnered significant attention from the international community. Since its inception, this initiative has evolved into a crucial platform for promoting global infrastructure connectivity and economic collaboration. For professionals in civil engineering, new challenges and responsibilities have emerged, including how to integrate into overseas environments, enhance communication competencies, strengthen discourse power, and safeguard national strategic security. Previous studies predominantly focused on construction personnel, technical standards, cooperative models, risk management, and policy responses, while rarely addressing linguistic dimensions or positioning cross-cultural communication as a pivotal solution. This research systematically deconstructs cultural adaptation challenges in the internationalization process of civil engineering. It explores innovative educational paradigms that integrate civil engineering with foreign language disciplines to cultivate interdisciplinary talents equipped with exceptional professional expertise, cross-cultural communication competencies and discursive awareness. The study proposes strategies to promote China’s outstanding traditional culture, tactfully resolve cultural barriers and conflicts, consciously maintain national sovereignty security and positive international image, and enhance the global discourse power of China’s engineering education. These efforts ultimately contribute to building a connected, mutually beneficial community with a shared future for mankind.
