- Abstract
This paper explores the reconstruction process of educational rights for impoverished rural women in China within the context of gender inequality, focusing on the story of Zhang Guimei and her establishment of the Huaping High School for Girls, as portrayed in the TV series She and Her Girls. The series, based on real events, highlights the role of education as a crucial pathway for rural women to achieve social equity, personal growth, and self-fulfillment. This study emphasizes Zhang Guimei’s efforts to secure educational opportunities for impoverished girls and examines how the power of education enables these women to overcome multiple barriers, including familial, economic, and gender-related challenges. Additionally, the paper discusses how gender inequality in education impacts women’s developmental prospects and explores the ways in which social and institutional support can further promote educational equity and empower women.
