Abstract

With the rapid growth of mobile health (mHealth) applications, there is increasing interest in understanding the factors that drive behaviour change. Despite the widespread use of mHealth apps, little is known about how psychological health beliefs and user engagement influence behaviour change. This study explores behaviour change by integrating the Health Belief Model (HBM) and User Engagement Model (UEM) to predict healthy behaviour adoption and technology engagement. A model was developed incorporating HBM’s focus on health-related attitudes and beliefs, and UEM’s emphasis on user commitment in digital interactions. Using data from 423 respondents, Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) was applied to validate the relationships among these factors. Results showed that health belief positively impacts healthy behaviour adoption and user engagement positively impacts health technology engagement. In addition, both healthy behaviour adoption and health technology engagement positively impact behaviour change. Future research should focus on long-term engagement strategies and the psychological mechanisms influencing behaviour change in mHealth contexts.
