- Abstract
The negative image of America in Muslim-majority countries due to the attacks of September 11, 2001 made the United States make diplomatic efforts to Muslim-majority countries. Efforts were made by conducting multitrack diplomacy where diplomacy was carried out by government and non-government actors. Diplomatic efforts were carried out by the United States using the sport envoy program, namely by visiting various countries by inviting its best athletes. The program was carried out together with the National Basketball Association (NBA) with the Jr. NBA program. This study uses a qualitative research method where the source of information is obtained from the phenomena that occur. This study found that the impact produced by the United States’ diplomatic efforts had a good impact by reducing the negative image of America due to the attacks of September 11, 2001. Diplomacy carried out by involving various government and non-government actors produced positive impacts which were in accordance with the objectives of the program, namely to improve the physical fitness of children in Indonesia and minimize the negative image of America in Muslim-majority countries.
