- Abstract
This paper explores the development and significance of Srivijayapedia, a digital platform aimed at preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the Srivijaya civilization. Comprehensive documentation of historical environments plays a vital role in deepening our understanding of the past and reinforcing both individual and national identity. This awareness fosters cultural unity, instills pride, and supports sustainable heritage preservation. To elevate the status of historical heritage, it is essential to develop engaging and interactive methods of showcasing its uniqueness. A central question emerges: how can a digital encyclopedia enhance public awareness of heritage preservation, allowing individuals to explore identity and understand historical evolution? Although historical information on Srivijaya is relatively abundant, it remains scattered and underutilized in digital formats. Digital tools such as virtual reconstructions and interactive platforms offer accessible, immersive, and cost-effective means of preserving and disseminating cultural knowledge. Srivijayapedia is presented as an interdisciplinary initiative grounded in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), aimed at transforming traditional historical documentation into an engaging digital encyclopedia. A systematic literature review informs the project’s focus on three core areas: (1) the educational impact of digital heritage encyclopedias, (2) the current state of Srivijaya’s digital representation, and (3) the economic potential of digital heritage in supporting tourism. The project adopts intercultural and community-based approaches to build a sustainable and inclusive digital archive that serves both scholars and the public. Ultimately, Srivijayapedia supports broader efforts aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those addressing education, cultural sustainability, innovation, and economic development through heritage-based initiatives.
