Abstract

Due to the digitization of financial services worldwide and increasing fraud cases, the concern of online microfinance fraud and P2P lending risk is a certainty with NBFC. Over the last decade, there has been increasing scholarly activity directed at fundamental issues in this area. University of Queensland’s Yang Zhang and Wei Liu along with Macquarie University’s David E. W. Chien came up with “mapping the intellectual contributions, in the area of microfinance fraud and p2p lending risk: a systematic review”. Scholars carry out a bibliometric study to evaluate the research on microfinance fraud and peer-to-peer lending risk. A total of 930 documents from the Scopus database are analyzed. The study period of this study ranges from 2014 to 2024. The biblioshiny and VOSviewer applications have been used by the researchers to assess various measures.

The emerging of microfinance frauds has become a serious concern of the NBFC industry in the backdrop of P2P lending. Peer to peer platforms act as a principal mediator between wealthy lenders and those who are in search of a loan. Nonetheless, I’m worried about the increasing digital frauds being committed. The study shows a gradual rise in the studies on issues regarding fraud or microfinance and deception or peer to peer lending. The research demonstrates that researcher-wise China, the USA and the UK are dominating. According to the analysis, shadow banking, fintech, credit risk, fraud detection are the superordinate themes, while terms like crowdfunding, etc.
