- Abstract
Since its publication in 1934, “Thunderstorm” has generated considerable discussion, with both praise and criticism present. However, criticisms regarding the portrayal of its only eight characters primarily focus on Lu Dahai. This paper will explore how Lu Dahai, shaped by both the circumstances within and outside the play, as well as the ideological shifts of Cao Yu, emerges in the context of the narrative framework and external ideological influences, revealing the spirit of the era that can be manifested through his character.
