- Abstract
This study aims to analyze the process of phonological change in Thai Patani Malay. Phonological changes in Malay can occur according to the behavior of speakers, which are often caused by the natural properties of the physiology of pronunciation and perception of sound when listening, or from the physical properties of the sound itself. The research instrument used was a list of 400 Indonesian words. The informants in this study consisted of 4 persons: 2 native speakers of Thai Patani Malay and 2 linguists. The researchers collected data by classifying the words used for analysis and observed the phonological changes of each word collected from the research area. From the results of the analysis, phonological changes in Thai Patani Malay can be divided into four main categories: sound assimilation, sound deletion, sound insertion, and sound axis changes.
