- Abstract
The story “Pak Supi Kakek Pengungsi” (PSKP) is a children’s literary work by S. Rukiah Kertapati, which was banned from circulation after the 1965 events. In 2018, this children’s story was republished by Ultimus, a publisher in Bandung. As children’s literature created by an adult, PSKP’s story is not free from certain ideologies and contains educational messages or values for children. Therefore, this writing seeks to explore the ideology presented, considering that the author was a member of LEKRA and has been labeled a leftist writer. Additionally, this writing attempts to reveal the message of the story as a children’s tale through close and critical reading. In PSKP, S. Rukiah portrays her solidarity with the oppressed, like Pak Supi, by presenting an ideal figure such as Pak Kudus, who unites the farmers so they can learn to read and write. Through the children’s characters, especially Abas, who comes from a good family, Abas is depicted as a child with a strong sense of responsibility, constantly remembering the messages and values instilled by his parents always to uphold truth and justice.
