Abstract

The Mongondow people who live in Bilalang Village are one of the communities that have various ceremonial traditions in their lives. One of the rituals they perform is the Motayok rite. Motayok is a rite related to healing or treating the sick. They combine religious values, myths and legends of their ancestors to produce a form of cultural customs that are translated into a ritual as a reflection of a belief. In the rites carried out by traditional communities, there is a wealth of terms (lexicon) that reflects local wisdom and values held by traditional communities. The terms and vocabulary used in the ritual often reflect the perspectives, beliefs, and practices of the community, which strengthens the sense of identity and pride in their cultural heritage. This article discusses the forms of lexicon found in the Motayok rite. The lexicon in the Motayok rite is an important part of the Mongondow language preservation effort. However, the lexicon in the Motayok rite reflects specific vocabulary, terms, and concepts to describe the culture of the Mongondow community. This research obtained 38 lexicons related to the Motayok rite. These lexicons are classified into four groups, namely lexicons related to the perpetrators, lexicons of tools and materials, lexicons of stages, and lexicons of types of diseases.
