Abstract

The Tadulako site is one of the sites characterized by megalithic culture in the Behoa Valley, Poso Regency, Central Sulawesi Province. The presence of megalithic cultural remains at this site was first recognized by foreign researchers around the 19th century AD. Research in this area is still rarely done, this is because the area is far inland, transportation is difficult and the terrain is quite heavy. The National Archaeological Research Center (currently the Center for Prehistoric and Historical Archaeology Research) and the North Sulawesi Archaeological Center as one of its technical implementation units have also conducted research at this site. Both survey and excavation research were conducted in 1995, 1999, 2002, 2003 and 2021. The results of the excavations show that this site is a megalithic settlement site consisting of residential, burial and cult sites. Two chronological analysis results from the excavation results in 2021 around the new megalithic statue were obtained in 2021 and 2023, which are at least from the 5th - 6th century AD. This chronology is younger than the ages of other megalithic sites in the Behoa Valley which have ages around the early centuries AD. From the results of DNA testing, supporters of megalithic culture at the Tadulako Site have genetic closeness (DNA) with current communities in other parts of Sulawesi.
